Help! I did the training, but threw the diet

Postby Sebastian on Mon Mar 17, 2008 6:52 am

A recent question came in from a person using The Fat Burn Truth, who was following the exercise portion of the program closely. However, they didn't apply the diet side of things as much and encountered some problems. Here is what was sent in:

Hey Sebastian,

Ok so here is my situation.

I was on the Boost Phase for 2 weeks and then I went away on vacation for 2 weeks. I am now back and well let's just say that I put the weight back on. No Big Suprise!

My body is very volatile and it doesn't matter how little I deviate it has huge impact. I am up about 6 lbs and this week I have been back on it but I have had 4 cheats so not that great.

I am now headed on vacation again in 6 weeks and well I need to drop at least 10 lbs. So I am wondering what are some tips that you can give me to help me achieve this. PRESSURE is on. I will need to be swimsuit ready.

So here are some of my questions:
1) I have now finished the 3rd week of the boost exercise program but haven't stuck to the diet so I am up on my weight. Do I go to the Burn Phase for weights and go strict on the Boost diet?

2) Would I be better restarting from scratch the program and doing 3 weeks boost and 1 week burn (but remember I have done 4 weeks of boost phase exercises and just not the diet for 2 of the 4 weeks) or do I go the burn exerice?

3) Would I maybe get the best results by doing the primer phase of Naturally Massive?

4) What should I do about the diet? Should I eliminate all carbs and do protein and vegetables only? Or should I do carbs only for breakfast and the rest veggies, chicken, fish and protein shakes with water?

What are your thoughts? I just really want this this time and you know me I am so determined. The drive for working out isn't much of the problem I need some guidance there, but I really need the help with the FOOD as that is my killer...

Let me know your thoughts,
Thanks a million,
Sebastian

Your way to recover some lost ground

There is some good news in this, as it is likely that you may have increased fluid and muscle weight more than anything.... unless you were eating reeealy badly. I say this because if you went from the tighter Burn Phase diet to the Boost Phase diet and simply continued with increasing the calories level of healthy foods, you will see more intracellular fluid increases than fat increases. Short vacations from a tight eating regime can cause some radical swings.

Here is what I would suggest to get things back in order:
1. I would apply the Burn Phase diet and training methods for the next couple of weeks. The training style and cardio in that portion of the program will eliminate elevated blood sugars and help reduce fluid weight. Depending on your energy level by the end of the second week, you could add a third week of the Burn Phase.

2. I am not certain, but it sounds like you may have turned the Boost and Burn Phase workouts around. That said, since the Burn Phase is the more restrictive of the two, I would apply this first. If you were applying this just before your vacation, it is likely you would have had a dramatic weight adjustment on your vacation, if the eating pattern was wildly different. The body never reacts mildly to radical changes. This can be good when done right, but usually not so good if done in an uncontrolled manner.

3. The Primer Phase of Naturally Massive is great for Fat Burning as well, but is similar to the Burn Phase in The Fat Burn Truth. The training is the big difference and for what you want to achieve, I would apply the Burn Phase in The Fat Burn Truth.

4. I wouldn't eliminate all carbs, as this will tend to slow your metabolism after a couple of days. You can eat a diet rich in a variety of vegetables and lean protein sources, while taking protein in shakes between meals, but if you are reducing your intake of starchy carbs for a couple of days you will need to increase your healthy fat by supplementing with flax oil or other omega 3 oils on your meals or in your shakes. Never drop your calories below 1100, so any carbs you cut for a brief one or two days, should be compensated for by making up the difference with healthy fat. This will keep your metabolism from going into a nose dive and balance your energy levels.

The food part is the most vital part of any program. I would go so far as to say it is 70% to 95% of your results, depending on the amount of training you do.

By applying the above you should be ready for the beach in no time.

Cheers,
Sebastian
